Deaf at Defqon.1

So before I became fat and old. (32 is ancient in gay years) I actually went out and did exciting things. One of those thing was an incredible music festival in The Netherlands. Defqon.1

Defqon.1 is held annually in the Netherlands, organised by Q-dance and plays hardstyle music and other similar genres. It's where I discovered my love for loud bangy music, hot European men and Bacardi.

It was back in June 2011 when me and my friend went. Those 9 years seem like an age ago. The stages were all made up of recycled stuff. Tyres, traffic cones and rubber dinghies of all things. Everything was so beautifully created and the atmosphere was out of this world. I got to see my favourite artist (The Prophet) perform on the main stage and I was pretty drunk from start to finish. All in all it was a great experience.

I remember the entire experience being an anxiety nightmare. It was my first time going abroad without my family. I was going to an unknown country and I would be surrounded by thousands and thousands of people. Seeing the crowd for the first time made me want to projectile vomit. However I manned up, medicated and got through it.

I think sometimes in order to face your fears you just have to tackle them head on, dive into the unknown and live out the adventure as it happens. Although I still have social anxiety issues and the crowd will still make me feel ill inside, I will go back and I will love every moment. So if you're reading this and you have an anxiety issue troubling you. Just go for it. Be fearless and live. Also get drunk it really helps.

As always, thanks for reading
